Why multiple names?

Genes are researched by different organizations (Genomic, Clinical, Proteomic) concurrently. A single gene often gathers multiple aliases, symbols, and numeric tags over time as different biological functions are discovered.

Where do they come from?

Ensembl (EBI) focus on genomes, Entrez (NCBI) is the clinical/standard for literature, and UniProt tracks the resulting protein products. Each database maintains its own stable identifier system for cross-referencing.

How we achieve mapping?

We utilize high-speed batch reconciliation via the MyGene.info engine, which cross-indexes billions of curated entity relationships to find the most probable equivalent ID across all major repositories.

Standardized IDs used: Ensembl (EBI), Entrez (NCBI), UniProt, and HGNC Symbols.
